On Saturday, the 6th April 2019, the BASIS Latin American Committee, in collaboration with the Programme Board of International Studies and the Faculty of Humanities, organized the first conference for and by BAIS students in the Campus The Hague.
In the first article of this series, Dário described to you the efforts we made trying to discover how a person’s morality is shaped. Today I write a second one, in hopes it will inspire you to listen to and watch his song and videoclip on this very same topic!
Morality is something we do together. This is the underlying topic of the recently released song You and I Together, which explores the notion that–even though we are not able to articulate abstract terms like ‘good’, ‘bad’, ‘truth’ or ‘friendship’–we express our understanding through our actions.
Dr. Baarssen shares his ideas on how to apply key concepts of the course (Othering and Orientalism) to his own field of interest, US history and politics. This puts the course as well as its key concepts in a broader context and shows the range of topics that International Studies is able to cover.
On 20 November, BA IS hosted an event connected to the 2018 Brazil Week, which, since it was first set up by Sara Brandellero and Marianne Wiesebron in 2013, has been organized for six years now by staff and students working in Brazilian Studies in the Latin American Programme at Leiden.
